Discussion: Are We Building Paradises?
The exhibition "13 Stories of Humanistic Design" presents 13 architectural projects by Alvar Aalto nominated for UNESCO's World Heritage List. For the exhibition, author Sanna Puutonen has written 13 fictional stories from the perspective of the buildings' users.
In the discussion (2:00 PM - 3:30 PM), Puutonen and urban planner and land-use director Leena Rossi explore architecture and literature: how both art forms create spaces for people to experience, what Aalto's buildings reveal about their own era, and what visions - in Aalto's words, "paradises" - can be embedded in urban planning. The discussion also examines how Jyväskylä's architecture reflects different historical periods.
The same day's programme also includes the workshop "Life in Central Finland in Earlier Times" from 12:00 to 3:00 PM. The Aalto2 museum centre offers free admission all day. The event is part of Jyväskylä's Art Street autumn season opening weekend programme.
