It is summer 1990. Clark is a failed architect and owner of a struggling furniture store who suffers from alcoholism and the breakdown of his marriage. In the midst of depression and crisis, Clark discovers a mysterious door in the wall of his furniture store's basement level. Upon stepping through the door, Clark ends up in a parallel dimension - an endless labyrinth of yellow rooms and empty office spaces. Clark quickly becomes obsessed with exploring the place. Clark unravels the knots of his life to his therapist, Dr. Mary Kline, and tells her of his discovery. When the therapist has difficulty believing the story, Clark mysteriously disappears into the depths of the labyrinth. To help and save her patient, Mary must herself step into the unknown dimension, where human trauma and reality begin to fragment. In the midst of harsh fluorescent lighting and emptiness, they realize they are not alone in the labyrinth, but are being hunted by the Backrooms' twisted, inhuman creature.
