Leo and Jere expected to meet a male singer, but standing behind the door was Elli, dressed in a Hurriganes shirt, her wrists covered in bracelets and mismatched Converse sneakers on her feet. That group grew into one of Finland's most popular rock bands. Remarkably, the same four-piece is still playing together without a single lineup change. Leo Hakanen and Jere Marttila recruited drummer Jukka Soldan while still in secondary school, and Elli a little later, and all of them are still members of the band. The first gig takes place at Pyhtää Cultural Centre courtyard concerts on 24 July 2026. It is an open-air event on a smaller scale, where the audience gets close to the stage. It is a different kind of occasion from the band's big arena gigs, which it is used to performing at.

Just over a week later comes an urban gig: Haloo Helsinki! at Allas on 6 August 2026. The venue is Allas in Helsinki, and up-to-date ticket information can be found on the event page. Beyond these two gigs, the band has not currently been confirmed anywhere else in our calendar for summer 2026, so Haloo Helsinki! concerts are for now limited to Pyhtää and the capital.

The band's journey from the rehearsal room to the Olympic Stadium

In brief: The band was founded in Helsinki in 2006, broke through in 2011, and their comeback after a 2018 hiatus culminated in a gig at the Olympic Stadium.

Guitarists Leo Hakanen and Jere Marttila have known each other since kindergarten, and both grew up in the Suutarila neighbourhood in northern Helsinki. In the final years of primary school they recruited drummer Jukka Soldan into the band, knowing he was the most talented drummer in the school. The quartet was completed by vocalist-bassist Elli Haloo, also known as Elisa Tiilikainen.

The breakthrough did not come overnight. The band's debut album Haloo Helsinki was released in 2008 and jumped to number six on the official album chart. Mainstream popularity only ignited around the third album: the real breakthrough came with the hit Maailman toisella puolen in the summer of 2011.

After that, the band made Finnish music history. They are the first Finnish artist to have four consecutive singles reach the top of the Finnish radio chart. Success continued album after album, until the band decided to take a breather. Haloo Helsinki! went on hiatus at the height of their popularity in the summer of 2018, as band members wanted time for their own music projects. Elli performed under the artist name Ellips, Jere and Leo formed a DJ-producer duo called Stereo, and Jukka played drums in JVG's band at summer festival gigs.

The return was made in style. In February 2021 the single Piilotan mun kyyneleet was released, which they performed in the final of Uuden musiikin kilpailu, marking the band's first appearance in over two years. The comeback culminated at a point that few could have imagined in the early years. A tour lasting over two years took the band, as the first domestic act, to the renovated Olympic Stadium, on an ice hall tour, and to dozens of festival gigs.

The new album and what happened before it

Voiko enkelitkin eksyä is the title track of the band's eighth album, which was released on 10 October 2025. Two radio hits emerged from the album ahead of release: Kaikki päättyy kyyneliin, which crossed the gold threshold, and Gardenia, which grew into a massive hit and stayed in the radio chart top 10 continuously for a long time.

There is one delicious detail in the story of how the album came to be. The band recorded the album partly in the English countryside, at Peter Gabriel's legendary Real World Studios near Bath. Behind the mixing desk sat people of exceptional calibre: the album was mixed by Miles Walker and seven-time Grammy winner Vance Powell, working with the band for the first time, who has worked with artists including Jack White and Arctic Monkeys.

The album release was followed by a tour, though on a different schedule than originally planned. The band's arena tour, originally planned for autumn 2025, was moved to spring 2026 because vocalist Elli Haloo had a child, who was born in January 2026. With the new album, the band embarked on a six-city arena tour in spring 2026. The summer 2026 outdoor gigs are thus a continuation of a busy album year.
