Antonio Banderas (born José Antonio Domínguez Bandera, 10 August 1960, Málaga) is a Spanish actor, director, producer and singer whose career spans more than four decades. He first gained international attention through his collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar, then became a Hollywood name in the 1990s with films such as Desperado, The Mask of Zorro and Evita. His performance in Almodóvar's Pain and Glory (2019) brought him the Cannes Best Actor prize, a Goya Award and an Oscar nomination - widely seen as the peak of his dramatic work. Beyond film, he runs the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Málaga, where he has produced and starred in Spanish-language musicals.
Banderas promoted the A24 Anthony Bourdain biopic 'Tony' ahead of its wide release on 21 August 2026, in which he plays a Brazilian-born restaurateur.
Banderas's Teatro del Soho production of Godspell won 7 BroadwayWorld Spain audience awards in 2026.
Banderas received the Stella della Mole lifetime achievement award at the Torino Film Festival on 29 November 2025.
His daughter Stella Banderas married Alex Gruszynski in Spain in October 2025.
Banderas turned 65 and stated in an interview with El País that he has no plans to retire.
