Boris Grebenshikov (born 27 November 1953 in Leningrad) is a singer-songwriter, poet and guitarist who co-founded the band Aquarium in 1972 - a group that has been central to Russian rock from its underground Soviet beginnings to the present day. Known by his initials BG, he is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of Russian rock music, and his poetic, spiritually charged lyrics have left a lasting mark on the Russian language. Since 2023 he has been listed as a 'foreign agent' by the Russian Ministry of Justice and lives outside Russia, continuing to tour internationally.
A St. Petersburg court fined Grebenshikov 40,000 rubles for publishing a YouTube video without the legally required 'foreign agent' label.
Russia's Ministry of Justice added Grebenshikov to its register of 'foreign agents' on 30 June 2023.
A scheduled concert in Nice on 21 September 2024 was cancelled.
Grebenshikov's official site lists upcoming concerts in Antalya, Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart, Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Dubai and Limassol through late 2026.
