David Bowie (born David Robert Jones, 8 January 1947 - 10 January 2016) was an English singer, songwriter and actor whose career spanned more than five decades. He released 26 studio albums and sold an estimated 140 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists in history. Critics and fellow musicians alike regarded him as a defining innovator - particularly for his 1970s work - and his constant reinvention of persona and sound left a lasting mark on popular music, fashion and visual art.
