Mikko Tapio Alatalo (born 1 May 1951, Kuivaniemi) is a Finnish singer-songwriter, musician and former politician who has shaped Finnish popular music since the early 1970s. He co-founded the band Coitus Int with Juice Leskinen and Harri Rinne, then built a prolific solo career spanning folk-rock, protest songs, schlager and children's music - winning the Syksyn Sävel competition four times between 1978 and 1986. He served as a Centre Party MP for four terms (2003-2019) and has released over 50 albums, with his 2026 orchestral record 'Se se on rokkii... ja sinfoniaa' described by him as the final work of his recording career.
Alatalo released his orchestral album 'Se se on rokkii... ja sinfoniaa' in February 2026, recorded with Oulu Sinfonia and Kuopio City Orchestra under conductor Jukka Myllynen; he describes it as the final work of his recording career.
The 'Maalaispojasta 50 vuotta' tour concluded with a closing concert on 14 November 2025 at Tampere-talo, featuring the Alatalo Bros band and guest artists including Ronja Alatalo.
Alatalo performed in Ylivieska in September 2025, with the symphonic album's hits 'Kiiminkijoki', 'Yhdentoista virran maa' and 'Viivy vielä hetki' featured in the set.
The reissued debut album 'Maalaispoika oon' (1974) reached number two on the Finnish physical album chart in September 2024, fifty years after its original release.
