Pekka Puska is a Finnish physician and public health scientist who served as director general of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) from 2008 to 2013. He is internationally known for the North Karelia Project, a pioneering cardiovascular disease prevention programme launched in the 1970s.
