Robert Zemeckis (born May 14, 1952, Chicago) is an American director and screenwriter whose career spans five decades of Hollywood filmmaking. He broke through with the Back to the Future trilogy (1985-1990) and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), then won the Academy Award for Best Director for Forrest Gump (1994). Throughout his career he has pushed the boundaries of visual effects and motion-capture technology, directing films such as Cast Away (2000), The Polar Express (2004) and, most recently, Here (2024).
