Kirsi Sihvo: My Name Was Nikolai

"My Name Was Nikolai" is a novel that tells the story of two young people's lives in the 1930s and during World War II. Artistically talented and gifted young people - Nikolai, a Karelian from Tver, and Lillian, an American - meet and are swept up in the storms of history.

The novel explores the tension between idealism and reality, propaganda and the individual's yearning for freedom and creativity.

The book is partly based on true events.
