Architecture Walk in Kannelmäki

The architecture walk in Kannelmäki is part of the programme for the exhibition "The Unknown Neighbourhood". The guides are the exhibition's curators, researcher Laura Berger and professor of architectural history Panu Savolainen.

Kannelmäki is one of Helsinki's oldest northern neighbourhoods and represents different phases of suburban development from the 1950s to the 1990s. The walk begins in the area's oldest section, built in the mid-1950s and early 1960s, and continues through Kannelmäki Church, which exemplifies concrete brutalism, to the newer parts constructed from the 1970s onwards. Along the way, participants stop at Kanneltalo, which represents Helsinki's postmodern architecture.
