Guided Tour of Suomenlinna Fortress — Suomenlinnan merilinnoitus, Helsinki

A walking tour exploring the history and present-day Suomenlinna fortress under the guidance of an expert guide.

Construction of the fortress began in 1748. The bastion-fortified fortress on six islands initially served as a base for the Swedish archipelago fleet with large dry docks. The Russian period began with the fortress's surrender in 1808 during the Finnish War and lasted 110 years, leaving behind barracks and ramparts with batteries on the southwestern side. The Finnish period started in spring 1918 in the shadow of the civil war, and the islands subsequently became a garrison community and cultural heritage site.

Guided tours in Finnish are arranged:
- 2.6.-31.8. daily at 12.00 (not on Midsummer's Day)
- 22.6.-9.8. daily at 14.00: "Secrets of Suomenlinna" tour

Tours begin at Suomenlinna Museum and last approximately one hour. The "Secrets of Suomenlinna" tour includes passages through tunnels and casemates - the route is not wheelchair accessible, and bringing your own flashlight is recommended.

Tickets: 16 € / adults, 11 € / students and pensioners, 6 € / children. The guided tour includes free admission to the Ehrensvärd Museum during museum hours.
