Guided tour of the House of Culture in English

The House of Culture is considered the pinnacle of Alvar Aalto's red brick architecture and is particularly known for its freely formed brick facades and monumental spaces. During the guided tour, an experienced guide from the Alvar Aalto Foundation will introduce you to the building's history, materials, and design process.

Originally, the House of Culture was a political project. It was built by Finland's Communist Party together with other socialist organizations. Because of the project's political nature, the building was constructed largely through volunteer work.

Beyond its architectural significance, the House of Culture is an important venue for popular culture. The concert hall's musical history includes performances by Ella Fitzgerald, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and Lady Gaga. The building represents a cultural institution open to all and continues to thrive today.

The tour is conducted in English. The tour lasts one hour and departs from the House of Culture's main entrance. There is no ticket sales at the door.
