Lähiödérivé
Helsingin kaupunginmuseo, Helsinki
ilmainen
Lähiödérivé is a full-day walk through Helsinki's suburbs from Kannelmäki to Vuosaari - approximately 25-30 km in total. The guide is architecture historian professor Panu Savolainen, who is also the curator of the "Unknown Suburb" exhibition.
The concept of dérivé originates from the late 1950s and 1960s French avant-garde Marxist activist movement, where it meant aimless wandering that could last for weeks. On this tour, the scale is more modest and the endpoint is known: Vuosaari, reached by 21:00 at the latest. Along the way, Savolainen discusses the architecture and history of Helsinki's suburbs.
The group stops for lunch and dinner at local restaurants in the suburbs. You can bring your own food or purchase meals along the route. Toilet breaks are also included.
Participation requires good walking fitness and the ability to tolerate uncertainty. It is recommended to bring comfortable walking shoes, plenty of water, and snacks. The event is part of the "Unknown Suburb" exhibition programme, entry is free and advance registration is not required.
Start: In front of Kannelmäki Church, Vanhaistentie 6
End: Vuosaari
