Day Trip to Central Finland's Unesco Sites
A day trip that visits all of Central Finland's world heritage sites in a single day. A guide shares the history and current status of each site, as well as stories about local life along the route.
Petäjävesi Old Church represents 18th-century Finnish wooden architecture and the craftsmanship of rural builders - the church is remarkably well preserved and still in use. In Korpilahti, visitors hike up a trail to the summit of Oravivuori to see the triangulation tower of the Struve Geodetic Arc, which relates to 19th-century measurements of Earth's size and shape. The route is two kilometres long. At Jyväskylä University's main campus, visitors view Alvar Aalto's 1950s architecture from the outside - the campus area is part of the Aalto Works world heritage nomination, which will be decided in July.
The price includes guided tour, transport, entry to Petäjävesi Old Church, and lunch at Satamakapteeni in Korpilahti. Lunch features slow-roasted pork, lake salmon, and roasted root vegetables (L, G), plus coffee and pastries. Dairy-free and vegetarian meals are available on request; for other dietary requirements, notify after ticket purchase at [email protected].
Bring a water bottle, sturdy shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing. The trip is not accessible for people with mobility limitations due to the Oravivuori nature trail and is suitable for those with normal fitness levels.
