Marianne Farrere is the world's richest woman - heiress to a cosmetics empire for whom money has lost its meaning and cannot buy love. The situation changes when a haughty fortune-seeker Pierre-Alain (Laurent Lafitte) enters her life - he is an almost-photographer and a complete opportunist.

Their acquaintance develops into a platonic romance, and Marianne begins giving the photographer millions - the entertainment is worth it. Her daughter (Marina Foïs) attempts, with the help of lawyers and a butler, to evict the suitor from the heiress's bank account, but to no avail.

The story is loosely based on the Liliane Bettencourt scandal. Laurent Lafitte was awarded the César Prize for Best Actor for his role, and the lead part seems tailor-made for Isabelle Huppert.
