Marilyn Monroe 100 Years at Kino Regina

The Marilyn Monroe 100 Years event takes place at Kino Regina on Friday, August 28 from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm. The programme examines the mark Monroe left on cinema, pin-up history, and the way women view and present themselves.

Henna Karppinen-Kummunmäki, a popular science writer and cultural historian, lectures on Monroe as part of pin-up history, drawing on her 2023 book "Me and Marilyn". Journalist Janne Siironen explores the canon of Marilyn interpretations and the history of myth-making - and who has been building that myth.

In the panel discussion "Marilyn in Our Mirrors", participants reflect on female identity in cinema and culture in the post-Marilyn era. Panelists include filmmaker Anna Eriksson and media researcher Kaisu Hynnä-Granberg; moderator is informaticist Niina Holm.

Following the event at 5:00 pm, John Huston's film "The Misfits" (1961) will be screened, with tickets sold by Kino Regina. The event and film launch a Marilyn Monroe film series at Kino Regina.
