Because the region remained sparsely populated after antiquity, many of its cities have been preserved in an exceptional state. This lecture series explores Emperor Septimius Severus' birthplace Lepcis Magna, Thugga and Cuicul hidden in mountain gorges, Lixus rising on the Atlantic coast, and Bulla Regia, whose private palace lower floors survive intact from floor to ceiling.
Schedule:
Sept 2: Libya - Lepcis Magna, Cyrenaica and Sabratha
Sept 9: Tunisia - Thugga and Mactaris
Sept 16: Tunisia - Sufetula and Bulla Regia
Sept 23: Algeria - Thamugadi and Cuicul
Sept 30: Morocco - Volubilis and Lixus
Lecturer: Dr. Ari Saastamoinen. Free admission, no registration required.
