Burning Europe - Songs and Arias — Jyväskylä
Description was written before the event

This concert brings together Dvorák's Gypsy Songs and arias from Carmen - a programme that explores the "Gypsy" imagery of Romantic-era music and its influence on European composition. The concert lasts approximately 30 minutes. Admission is free, but the programme booklet costs 15 € and proceeds support the concert's organisation and artistic activities.

The soloist is mezzo-soprano Helena Mäntylä from Tampere, who has studied singing at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and at Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, where she is currently studying music education under the guidance of Anna Karlsson. She has performed in, among other venues, the Savonlinna Opera Festival's opera festival train, as a mezzo-soprano soloist in Pekka Kostiainen's Magnificat church composition in Jyväskylä, and as a soloist with the Tampere Chamber Music Society's orchestra.

The pianist is Maila Böhm, who graduated from the Sibelius Academy as a piano teacher. She has worked as a teacher at music schools in Rauma and Enköping, and as an accompanist at the Tampere Music Academy, and has actively worked as a chamber musician and Lied pianist. She currently works as a freelancer.
