Towards the Unknown - School Morning - International Literacy Day

To celebrate International Literacy Day, Vuotalo hosts a meeting with a writer and illustrator on Tuesday 8.9.2026 at 10:00 in Vuosaari. In the morning, you will meet author Silja Sillanpää and illustrator Pasi Pitkänen, who will share the story behind the Ouroboros book series and their collaborative work. There will also be live drawing.

The school morning is part of the "Towards the Unknown" exhibition. The exhibition features Pasi Pitkänen's illustrations and is aimed at children and young people. It includes artwork from book series such as Pate (Timo Parvela), Kepler62 (Timo Parvela and Bjørn Sortland), Paavali Pattinen (Hannele Lampela), and Ouroboros (Silja Sillanpää). The images showcase magical snakes, strange creatures, and runes - light and shadow, tension and danger.

Pasi Pitkänen is a graphic designer graduate from Aalto University and has worked as an illustrator, character designer, and graphic artist at Rovio Entertainment. He now works as a freelance illustrator and spends part of the year in Japan. The exhibition and event have been produced by Salla Fornaro from Vuotalo's cultural services and Emilia Kämäräinen from Vuosaari Library in collaboration with Pitkänen.
