Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Svalbard are more than strategic points on a map - they are home to people, animals and plants. This lecture series explores current issues and looks beyond the headlines: what is life like at Europe's edge, how have people and animals adapted to Arctic conditions, and why have these regions become central to politics. The series also covers the history, culture and economy of these regions.

8.9. Europe's Arctic regions - geopolitical main lines, the significance of the GIUK line, Arctic cooperation bodies, and the effects of climate change on nature and way of life.

15.9. Greenland - the melting of the world's second-largest glacier, the struggle for independence and self-determination, and rare earth metals.

22.9. The Faroe Islands - traditional ballads and chain dances, heavy metal music and football, from wool production to the fishing industry, and community on isolated islands.

29.9. Svalbard - history from hunters to miners and researchers, polar bear danger in everyday life, and the world's northernmost primary school and post office in the midst of polar night.
