Raamisaha professorin korvassa - Book Presentation

Tapio Lampinen's book Raamisaha professorin korvassa is presented on the Saarikoski mat at Odi on Tuesday, 8 September at 5 p.m.

The book is a personal account that explores forgotten layers of Finnish economic history through individual lives and fates. Lampinen lost his father at age three. His mother continued his father's business with market trading in Pori, and the marketplace became the fatherless boy's childhood environment. The boy earned a few coins at a time by helping his family with small services.

When his mother gave up market trading and returned to work as a housemaid, the boy spent seven summers at the Rosenlew company's factories - at Seiku's sawmill and the bag factory. With theological studies came a change of setting to a Helsinki student residence, Satakuntatalo, which also offered paid work. Two summers at Swedish factories broadened his world: among his coworkers were migrants from over 120 countries, including some of the first pioneers of Finland's major immigration wave.

The story is introspective historical writing about life from six to seven decades ago.
