Väliintulo - An Ode to Literacy

Väliintulo - An Ode to Literacy is a new play by dramatist Pipsa Enqvist about the importance of literacy and reading instruction. The Kajana City Theatre production is part of the regional theatre's touring programme, with its premiere on 5 September 2026 at Sissilinna.

In the play, a heavenly council brings Lukkarinen from Aleksis Kivi's classic novel The Seven Brothers into the present day, where a ninth-grade teacher struggles to get her students to read. The encounter is not without friction, but the pair need each other. The performance lasts approximately 1 hour 15 minutes with no intermission.

Directed by Sanna Heikkinen. Written by Pipsa Enqvist. Set design Annukka Mäntynen, lighting design Henri Pyy, sound design Juho Lukinmaa, hair and makeup Heidi Kaartinen, props Soile Savela. Featuring Mika Silvennoinen and Vera Veiskola.

Doors open one hour before the performance. Discount cards are checked at the door.
