Uudet Tekijät: Knife Jerks - Puukkojunkkarit

Knife Jerks is a poetic pornokabaret created through the collaboration of four young artists - an exploration of what it means to be Finnish today. The performance confronts Santeri Alkio's 1894 novel Puukkojunkkarit with 21st-century popular culture through live camera technique, theatre, and dance.

The performance addresses experiences, representations, and symbols connected to Finnishness with a grotesque approach - rewriting, examining, and commenting on the source text. Alkio's world of brigands is compared here to the violence and social pornography streaming from various screens in our time. Live camera footage is projected onto a transparent curtain in front of the audience, so that scenes on both sides of the curtain are revealed simultaneously as both physical reality and as mediated through the camera's perspective - as distant events happening elsewhere. Behind the curtain everything is play; in front, something else.

Song composition and arrangement: Ilona Karppelin, Kasper Korpela. The performance is based on Santeri Alkio's dramatic text Puukkojunkkarit. Duration approximately 1 hour. Age recommendation K-18. The team has received a grant from the Näty theatre arts programme in 2025.

Uudet Tekijät is Teatteri Telakka's programming model, aimed at bringing forward new-generation performing arts creators.
