Author Vesa Linna Visits

Non-fiction writer and photographer Vesa Linna presents his new work The Baltic Sea 1916-1945 - The Battle for Högland and Other True Stories from War. Linna has previously written about the history of Helsinki and Suomenlinna, music, and nature.

The book collects true stories from Finland's wars in the 20th century - major turning points, unusual human fates, and lesser-known moments from Baltic Sea history. The main characters are people who participated in these events themselves: Captain Salminen diverted bombers heading toward Helsinki along the Vasa shores, Lieutenant Fred Luther defended Bengtskär lighthouse against overwhelming attacks, and singer Georg Malmstén filmed a musical inside a submarine - and found himself at the centre of Finland's greatest espionage scandal. The stories are based on thorough research and illuminate the historical context of events and the life paths of the people involved.
