Community Dances: Dabkea with Yalla Collective - Malmitalo Community Monday

The first Monday of the month, we dance at Malmitalo! This event is part of Malmitalo's Community Monday series.

Free community dances open to everyone begin with a dance lesson, followed by a chance to practice what you've learned with live music. The dance style changes each month.

During the Al Huriya Dabken session (6-7 pm), participants will learn about the traditional line dance from the Levant, a style that developed thousands of years ago. Particularly in Palestine, it represents celebration, community, resistance, and the preservation of culture. From 7-8 pm, Yalla Collective performs - a DJ collective founded in 2022 that blends electronic music with music and culture from the SWANA region and its diasporas. SWANA is an anti-colonial term for South-West Asia and North Africa.
