What is Love? - Writing Workshop

What is love, and how can you write about it? In this writing workshop, we reflect and write together - love can be directed towards a romantic partner, a friend, or a passionate hobby, and you can write about it in many different genres: poetry, short stories, prose.

The workshop explores how to deepen your writing about love and how to avoid stereotypes. The programme includes at least one accessible poetry exercise and tips for longer prose. No previous writing experience is needed. Bring tools that work for you - a laptop or pen and notebook.

The workshop is led by author Aura Nurmi, whose latest novel Fleeing deals with queer love across borders. The workshop is aimed at young people and adults, and is conducted in Finnish.

The workshop is part of Helsinki City Library's "About Love" event series in autumn 2026. The series programme includes group singing sessions, author visits, a love poetry competition, and speed dating - more information about the programme coming soon.
