Planning Open Day: Greening Hämeentie

Hämeentie, a public transport street, was completed in 2021, but feedback about the lack of street greenery has continued since then. The city now plans to increase greenery and create rest areas on the section from Hakaniementori to Helsinginkatu.

The street is planned to receive new individual trees and shrubs, shrub and perennial beds, bulb plants, climbing plants on poles, and planter boxes - all permanent plantings. The root zones of existing street trees will be converted to planted beds to improve growing conditions. Additionally, the street will have seating furniture and bicycle racks.

Design sketches will be presented to residents on Thursday, 27 August, from 16:30 to 18:30 at Kallio Library (Viides linja 11). You can come at your own pace to view the plans and discuss them with the designers. A separate meeting for local business owners is scheduled for Friday, 28 August.

The building plans are intended to be completed by the end of 2025 and will be approved through official decisions. Construction could begin in spring 2027.
