Falkman's Studio, the Museum's Hidden Treasure

Few know about Finland's oldest surviving artist's studio, tucked away inside the Helsinki City Museum. Swedish-born painter Severin Falkman (1831-1889) built it for himself in 1872.

The studio has retained much of its original interior and offers a glimpse into the life of a history and portrait painter who was undervalued in his own time. Museum volunteers serve as conversation guides in the studio.
