Helpdesk 112: Cries for Help in the Digital Jungle

A live science performance that brings together results from two research projects and portrays Finland as a digital self-service society where citizens are left alone at their screens. The performance's title comes from a research participant who said they planned to call 112 when they could no longer navigate the jungle of digital public services.

The performance examines how algorithmic information systems deepen inequality, how automation conceals invisible data labour, and how data-driven management competes with democratic decision-making. The audience follows absurd situations that citizens seeking automated services find themselves in.

Live science makes research findings accessible through documentary theatre - researchers and actors share the stage. The performance has been dramatised and directed by theatre director and author Hanna Ryti.
