In the Footsteps of Ghosts - An Introduction to the Spirit World

Boundary researcher and Finnish history expert Mauri Karvonen presents two lectures on October 17, 2026, exploring the boundaries between this world and the next. The lectures draw on Finnish folk tradition, where November is the month of death and the autumn harvest festival of kekri intertwines with the spirits of the deceased.

The first lecture, "In the Footsteps of Ghosts - An Introduction to the Spirit World," takes place at the Aalto2 Museum Centre at 1 p.m. It addresses questions about what ghosts are, why they return among the living, and where they move about. The lecture is included in the museum's admission fee (18 / 10 / 4 / 0 €).

The second lecture, "Ghost Stories and Tragic Human Fates at Toivola's Old Farmyard," begins at 4 p.m. at Cygnaeuksenkatu 2, Jyväskylä. On the same day, an autumn kekri celebration is also held at Toivola's old farmyard.
