10s Across the Borders - Rakkautta & Anarkiaa 17.-27.9.2026
A documentary about queer ballroom culture in Southeast Asia, joy, and finding a chosen family. In the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, queer ballroom dance culture thrives - with role models sought in New York, the birthplace of ballroom culture and vogue dance.
Director Chan Sze-wei's camera follows main characters Sunia, Teddy, and Xyza through dance floors and underground scenes. For many, ballroom has offered a new family, a substitute parent, when their own family rejected them. For others, there is an accepting mother who cooks food from dance energy. The documentary also highlights the pandemic's impact on the dance scene - and how online events brought new people in.
Chan Sze-wei specializes in dance documentaries, underground cultures, and portrayal of the LGBTQIA+ scene.
