Scottish Music Night: Dàimh + Rachel Hair & Ron Jappy

Both artists of the evening are united by influences drawn from Scotland's west coast and the courage to reinvent Celtic music. This is an evening from the Ceòlas Tour.

In the duo Rachel Hair & Ron Jappy, traditional Scottish harp (clarsach) meets acoustic guitar. Their music moves through reels and jigs, but the duo has developed their sound in the interpretation of both old and new songs - the playing has even been called electric.

Dàimh is a five-piece ensemble whose instrumentation includes bagpipes and violin. Yet the music sounds fresh, not least thanks to Ellen MacDonald, who has quickly risen to the forefront of Scottish singers. The Celtic name Dàimh means community and spiritual kinship - a concept that has sustained the band for over 20 years.
