Alisa Javits: On Fear and Evil

Alisa Javits' 25-minute short film On Fear and Evil is built on anonymous interviews: people speak openly about their experiences with fear and evil - both the harm they have caused and what they have endured. A prologue and epilogue frame these stories, but the film offers no ready answers.

The work asks where the boundary between fear and evil lies and how personal experience shapes the way we act toward others. Individual stories raise questions that resonate more broadly: what happens to a person when evil is directed at them, and what when they themselves commit evil.

Javits is a visual artist and filmmaker whose work repeatedly explores the tension between the inner and outer worlds of human experience.
