Launch of Heikki Longa's Novel Ulkotaipale

Launch event for Heikki Longa's novel Ulkotaipale on Wednesday, 21 October 2026 at 17:00 at Keskustakirjasto Oodi (Saarikoski-matto, 3rd floor). The event is organized by Momentum Kirjat and Heikki Longa.

Ulkotaipale moves between two time periods. In 1941, a young Veikko from Varkaus, facing difficulties, is recruited into the Nazi SS forces in Germany, and his life is turned upside down irreversibly. In 1991, a housing exhibition arrives in Varkaus, bringing a colourful cast of people to the city - including American guests and the scandal-prone artist Kaisa. Recently relocated actor Tobias Ankerström and his teenage daughter Mathilda become entangled in a web where art, relationships, and outrageous mishaps intertwine. The return of Mathilda's mother complicates matters between Tobias and his journalist partner.

Strange objects and unexplained events begin to surface around the city - until a body is found on the theatre stage. How are the missing Veikko from the war and his stolen Nazi treasure connected to the housing exhibition's Ulkotaipale art exhibition?
