Gloomy Grim is a Finnish symphonic black metal band founded in Helsinki in 1995 by Juha Hintikka, known by his stage name Agathon. Starting as a one-man project, the band grew into a full lineup and released seven studio albums over a quarter-century, building a cult following with their occult, horror-drenched sound. Agathon, who was also active in Soulgrind, Thy Serpent and several other Finnish metal acts, passed away from cancer in May 2022. The band had already disbanded in August 2021 due to his deteriorating health.
A Gloomy Grim memorial concert is scheduled for August 6, 2026, at Bar Loose in Helsinki as part of the Hellsinki Metal Festival's See You In Hell club night, featuring musicians from the band's last two lineups.
The tribute album 'Gloomy & Grim: A Tribute To Agathon' was released on June 6, 2026 - what would have been Agathon's 58th birthday and the 30th anniversary of the band's first demo.
