Iiro Rantala (born 1970 in Helsinki) is a Finnish jazz pianist and composer who trained at the Sibelius Academy and the Manhattan School of Music. He rose to international prominence as the founder of Trio Töykeät, which played over 2,300 concerts in 40 countries before disbanding in 2006. As a solo artist on the ACT label, he has won Germany's Echo Jazz award and the German Record Critics Award for his album 'Lost Heroes', and he moves freely between jazz, classical music, film scores and theatre.
Rantala released 'Tough Stuff' with his HEL Trio on ACT Music - his first conventional piano trio album since Trio Töykeät disbanded in 2006.
UK Jazz News and All About Jazz praised 'Tough Stuff' as one of the piano trio albums of the year, highlighting Rantala's blend of classical, soul and gospel styles.
'Tough Stuff' was featured as Bandcamp New & Notable in April 2025, extending the album's reach to new audiences.
Rantala has upcoming concerts in Hamburg and Darmstadt, Germany, continuing his active European touring schedule.
