Max Raabe (born December 1962 in Lünen, Germany) is a baritone singer and the founder of the Palast Orchester, a Berlin-based ensemble he established in 1986 while studying at the Berlin University of the Arts. Together they specialise in the dance and film music of Weimar-era Germany - the 1920s and 30s - performed with dry wit and meticulous period style. Beyond the orchestra, Raabe has written original pop songs, appeared in musical theatre productions including Brecht and Weill's Threepenny Opera, and given his first Carnegie Hall concert in 2005.
