Octoploid performs their only show of the year at On The Rocks. Vocalist Mikko Kotamäki from Swallow the Sun leads the band through a blend of death/black metal, progressive rock, and psychedelic influences.
Mikko Kotamäki (born 24 December 1984) is a Finnish metal vocalist best known as the frontman of Jyväskylä-based death-doom band Swallow the Sun, which he has led since 2001. His vocal range spans death metal growls, black metal screams and clean singing - a versatility that has also taken him to Barren Earth, Kuolemanlaakso and several other Finnish acts. In 2025 he stepped in as live vocalist for British doom legends My Dying Bride, fronting the band in place of founding singer Aaron Stainthorpe.
My Dying Bride, with Kotamäki on vocals, performed Finnish club shows in Jyväskylä, Helsinki and Tampere as part of the Melancholy Mass Festivals run.
Kotamäki and two Ballet Finland dancers were interviewed about their joint performance on the 70000 Tons of Metal cruise, which drew a standing ovation.
Swallow the Sun's album 'Shining' won the Metal of the Year award at the Finnish Grammy equivalent, Emma-gaala, in March 2025.
My Dying Bride announced in December 2024 that Kotamäki would front the band for all 2025 live appearances, replacing founding vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe.
Swallow the Sun released their ninth studio album 'Shining' on 18 October 2024 via Century Media Records, produced by Dan Lancaster.
