Roxette is a Swedish pop-rock duo from Halmstad, formed in 1986 by singer Marie Fredriksson and guitarist-songwriter Per Gessle. The pair sold 75-80 million records worldwide and scored four US Billboard Hot 100 number ones - 'The Look', 'Listen to Your Heart', 'It Must Have Been Love' and 'Joyride' - making them Sweden's biggest-selling act after ABBA. After Fredriksson's death in December 2019, Gessle relaunched the band in 2025 with Swedish singer Lena Philipsson on lead vocals, touring under the Roxette name and celebrating the group's 40th anniversary in 2026.
Roxette announced a 14-city North American leg of the 40th Anniversary Tour, running September-October 2026 with Lena Philipsson on lead vocals.
'It Must Have Been Love' surpassed one billion streams on Spotify, making Roxette one of only two Swedish acts with a pre-2000 song in the Billions Club alongside ABBA.
Per Gessle and Lena Philipsson completed 43 concerts worldwide on the 'Roxette in Concert' tour, starting in South Africa and Australia.
A 3-CD remix box set, ROX RMX (Remixes from the Roxette Vaults), was released.
The musical 'Joyride the Musical', based on Roxette's songs and Jane Fallon's novel Got You Back, ran at Malmö Opera from September 2024 to April 2025.
