Tiia Kasurinen is a Helsinki-based choreographer and dance artist who graduated from Stockholm University of the Arts in 2017. Her work digs into identity, gender roles, power and pop culture - often through theatrical make-up, drag and visual transformation - and has been shown at Helsinki Festival, Zodiak, Reykjavik Art Festival and Dance Base Yokohama, among others. The pilot of her piece Birds of Paradise was selected for the final of the Danse Élargie competition at Théâtre de la Ville in Paris in 2024, the first Finnish work ever to reach that stage.
Birds of Paradise premieres at Helsinki City Theatre, Studio Pasila, with performances running August 6-19, 2026.
Kasurinen performed her solo work Songbird at Dance Base Yokohama in Japan on September 6, 2025.
Songbird, a new solo performance combining contemporary choreography with camp aesthetics and drag, premiered in Malmö, Sweden in late April 2025.
Kasurinen received a one-year grant from the Kone Foundation for 2025.
The pilot of Birds of Paradise was selected for the final of the Danse Élargie competition at Théâtre de la Ville in Paris - the first Finnish work in the competition's history.
