About

Richard 'Tipe' Johnson is a Finnish-American vocalist, born in Finland to a Swedish-speaking family, who spent time in the United States before building a career at the heart of Finnish rock. He is best known as the frontman of Gringos Locos, the Helsinki hard rock band that in 1987 became the first Finnish act since Hanoi Rocks to land a worldwide major-label deal - a seven-album contract with Polygram - and later toured Britain alongside Status Quo. Beyond Gringos Locos, Johnson has sung for Leningrad Cowboys, served as Apocalyptica's live touring vocalist, and fronts the veteran rock quartet MegaSnake.
