Viikate is a Finnish heavy metal band from Kouvola, formed in 1996 by Kaarle and Simeoni Viikate. Their sound blends melodic metal with rautalanka and schlager influences - a style critics have dubbed 'Helismaa-metal' and 'death schlagers' - always sung in Finnish. Over 15 studio albums, six of which have gone gold, the band has built one of the most loyal cult followings in Finnish rock.
Viikate released the anniversary single 'Killingintie' via Syyslevyt - the same label that put out their very first EPs in the late 1990s - to mark their 30th year.
The V30V anniversary tour launched with two sold-out nights at Helsinki's Tavastia club in May 2026, followed by a summer festival run and an autumn club tour across Finland.
Viikate released their 15th studio album 'Hiljainen' on 1 November 2024, kicking off a tour that opened with a sold-out show at Tampere's G Livelab.
'Hiljainen' is the first album recorded entirely by the current live lineup, with Ohto Pallas on drums and production by Miitri Aaltonen.
The 'Hiljainen' tour took Viikate into theatre halls and concert venues rather than rock clubs, reflecting the quieter, more atmospheric character of the album.
