Peter Köhler: No Rest Beneath the Rose
Helsinki Contemporary, Helsinki
ilmainen
Helsinki Contemporary is pleased to open the first solo exhibition in Finland by Swedish artist Peter Köhler. No Rest Beneath the Rose showcases the artist's skillful ink and acrylic drawings, which draw inspiration from myth and fantasy. Köhler's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions in Sweden, including Moderna Museet, Teckningsmuseet, and Galleri Magnus Karlsson, and his pieces are held in private and public collections in Sweden, Europe, and the United States.
According to Köhler, his practice brings together contemporary sociology, folklore, and magical thinking. Through his distinctive visual language, he explores how archetypes, beliefs, and myths are present in our time. Köhler's works challenge our understanding of rational contemporary culture and, conversely, the linearity of our age.
A blooming rose symbolizes, among other things, the beauty of life and, on the other hand, its transience. In Köhler's art, opposing forces also coexist - life and death, darkness and light - side by side. His abundant, kaleidoscopic works create a unique sense of time and place: in them, the present and the past, the human world and the magical underworld exist in constant motion and interaction.
