The Bear and Forest Animals: Watercolours by Vasili Reskalenko

The watercolour series "The Bear and Forest Animals" was created in 1998-99 as illustrations for a fairy tale that was never published with these images. The watercolours were previously shown in a travelling exhibition at Oulu Art Museum in 2004 and are now on display at Suomenlinna Library. Several of the watercolours from the series have already found new homes.

Artist Vasili Reskalenko was born and raised in the city of Mykolajiv in southern Ukraine. He began his art studies alongside the neighbours' sons at the Mykolajiv art school, studied at the Crimean art college, and later at the Repin Institute in Leningrad. In Oulu he has worked and taught since 1987. He currently lives and paints on Suomenlinna.
