Tor Arne, Paul Osipow

Galerie Anhava's spring 2026 programme concludes with a joint exhibition by Tor Arne (1934-2025) and Paul Osipow (b. 1939), centred on colour, light and line.

The exhibition idea emerged in summer 2024, when Arne proposed a shared show to Osipow. These two colleagues and friends, who had known each other for decades, were both founding members of the artist house on Riihitie in Järvenpää, established in 1967. In 1984, they exhibited together at the Helsinki Art Museum in the show Arne-Osipow-Enckell.

Tor Arne, who passed away in August 2025, had progressed far in preparing works for the forthcoming exhibition. The small pieces awaited completion in the artist's studio in Oulunkylä, and the works have been finished with the help of the artist's trusted colleagues and family. Arne's familiar horizontal rectangular form dominates, though there are also a few curved, round and polygonal works. Paper-based strips filled with oil pastel layers are densely packed despite their compact size - all that is essential is compressed into a narrow form with glowing colours.

Paul Osipow presents new paper works and paintings he created in spring 2026 in Grassina, Italy. Raisin buns, onions, butter croissants and sausages sourced from markets and bakeries have been recorded on thick paper with a bamboo brush dipped in ink - the line moves forward with confidence and creates tension in the pictorial space. The paintings revisit classic still-life motifs from the kitchen table: strong colours and thick brushstrokes.
