Aalto Design - Forms of Wellbeing
Arkkitehtuuri- ja designmuseo, Helsinki
0-23€
The Architecture and Design Museum's exhibition invites visitors to examine the legacy of Alvar, Aino and Elissa Aalto through the lens of wellbeing.
The exhibition explores how the Aaltos' work and philosophy approached wellbeing as a balance between people, nature, the built environment and materials. It connects their holistic wellbeing philosophy with contemporary understanding and the desire to view wellbeing as a question that extends far beyond the individual - a global concern.
The Aalto Design exhibition brings together diverse presentation forms and materials, including drawings and models, furniture, glass objects and material experiments, alongside artworks. The exhibition also features rarely displayed items from the Architecture and Design Museum's collections.
On display is the multi-channel video work Other Actors (2025) by artist-researcher Ilona Sagarin, based in London. The work examines the connections between body and building, and between health and architecture in the Paimio sanatorium designed by the Aaltos.
The Aalto lounge, designed by Linda Bergroth who oversaw the exhibition architecture, offers a calm space for reflection and invites visitors to explore how being in space affects body and mind in the presence of authentic Aalto objects.
