At the Rotunda of Kannelmäki Library, violinist Irma Niskanen, violist Hanna Pakkala, and cellist Juuli Holma perform. The programme features Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's divertimento for string trio (K. 563).

This approximately 50-minute work is one of the gems of Mozart's later output. The composer dedicated it to his friend Puchberg, who later became guardian of his children. The premiere took place in Dresden, where Mozart himself played viola at the court of Saxony's Elector Frederick Augustus III.

The work combines perfect command of the period's style with an individuality that foreshadowed Romanticism, along with historical references such as cantus firmus technique and Viennese dances. Vienna's leading publisher of the time, Artaria, released the first edition under the title Gran Trio per Violino, Viola e Basso Composto dal Sig.r W. A. Mozart a few months after Mozart's death. Artaria continues to operate today.

Free admission.
