The Memories in the Clouds exhibition runs in Kuben (2nd floor) during Oodi's opening hours, 15 June - 2 August 2026.

Memories in the Clouds visualises Kristina (Žičkutė) Laine's childhood memories from Soviet-occupied Lithuania. The film centres on Kristina's perspective as a child during the sweeping social and political changes of the collapsing Soviet Union, weaving thoughts and moods into a painterly, experimental work written in a structured form of poetic narration.

A blue sky serves as the canvas: memories appear as clouds that shimmer, shift and merge - like a living watercolour. The Lithuanian narration is spoken by Kristina herself, now as an adult, telling her story in the first person. Past and present meet in the fragile shapes of drifting memories.

Technically, the film combines timelapse footage of a summer sky shot in Lithuania with volumetric 3D simulation. Some sequences use 2D animation and rotoscoping, while an AI algorithm (VQGAN + CLIP) animates the narrated elements within the moving clouds. The film has subtitles in both Finnish and English.

Kristina Laine (Žičkutė) and Albert Laine are award-winning animation artists working in animation, VR and media art. Both studied animation at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turku and hold master's degrees from Aalto University. Their work has been shown at international film and media art festivals and exhibitions including AnimaDoc, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Helsinki Festival, MIAF, Tampere Film Festival, and on television.
