Made in Vuosaari - At Vuotalo Courtyard
Vuotalo, Helsinki

A large portion of our goods, equipment, clothing, and everything that surrounds us in daily life is transported across the sea in containers.
The nearby sea and Vuosaari harbour are part of global commodity production and trade.
In the Vuotalo courtyard, an installation is built following the dimensions of a shipping container. It contains stacked tiles depicting waves in a seascape, as if they were cargo on a ship - the sea cubified as merchandise.
The atmosphere the installation aims for is breathing and light, with the feeling of the sea and at the same time a sense of melancholy and sorrow during the ecological crisis.
Behind Made in Vuosaari is Anne Roininen's ongoing series of Made in works, which have been realised in Ylikiimingis in Oulu as well as in Tölö and Kruunuvuorenranta, with somewhat different emphases.

At the centre is the global commodity production machinery and the treatment of local identity.
Anne Roininen is a sculptor who often works site-specifically and process-based. Encounters with people are an important part of Roininen's practice, and her works often carry political weight.
